Qualifying SSD Impairments

Social Security lists all of the mental and physical conditions that could qualify a person for disability. The main categories of these qualifying conditions are as follows:

  • Immune System Disorders
  • Malignant Neoplastic Diseases
  • Mental Disorders
  • Neurological
  • Impairments that Affect Multiple Body Systems
  • Endocrine System
  • Skin Disorders
  • Hematological Disorders
  • Genitourinary Impairments
  • Digestive System
  • Cardiovascular System
  • Respiratory System
  • Special Senses and Speech
  • Musculoskeletal System

It is not necessary for you to meet all of the listing requirements for a particular disability. You may have a condition that is not listed or you may have a combination of conditions that are not severe individually, but create a disabling condition when combined. As a general rule, in order to qualify for Social Security Disability, your condition must be as severe as the conditions described within the SSA listings.
