If your initial application gets denied, you have 60 days from the date you received the SSA’s decision to file an appeal. During this reconsideration phase, your claim gets reviewed by someone who had no part in the initial application review. If the reconsideration results in a second denial, you have another 60 days from this notification to request a hearing with an administrative law judge.
