A person’s inability to work due to a medical condition can lead to a huge financial loss. However, in such a situation, the person can apply for Social Security Disability benefits. The disability benefits can provide a source of income for the person’s family. If the person is eligible for disability benefits, the applicant can apply online, which may be much easier than having to apply in person.

The applicant can file a claim for disability benefits if that person is at least 18 years of age and is unable to work for a minimum period of 12 months. However, if the applicant is already receiving Social Security disability benefits or has been denied benefits in the last 60 days, the application will not be accepted.

To apply online, the Adult Disability Checklist will help. In order to simplify the online application process, the person will need to supply personal details, including name, date of birth, place of birth and Social Security number. The SSN of the person’s current spouse or former spouse, if any, along with the date and place of marriage or divorce will also be required.

Other important information includes banking information and name and date of birth of any minor children. The person’s medical condition details should include name, address and phone number of a reference who is aware of the person’s medical condition along with the details of medications prescribed and the doctor who prescribed those medications. Work-related information should include details of income earned and the employer, in the current and previous year.

Sometimes, a person with a medical condition or disability may face many problems when that person applies for Social Security benefits. It is important to ensure that the applicant does not miss any important information during the application process.
