With over 20 years of experience, our attorney knows that there are alternatives to going to trial. Alternative Dispute Resolution methods my be faster, less stressful and less expensive than a court trial. Regardless, we are committed to achieving the results you want, and we are always prepared to go to trial as preparation for court begins the first time we meet.

Divorce and Family Law Practice Areas

  • Divorce: We handle divorce and all related matters.
  • Division of assets: The rule of thumb is that whatever is brought into the marriage is divided 50/50. There are exceptions to this rule, and we work with clients towards a favorable resolution.
  • Spousal support and alimony: Spousal support and alimony are not a guarantee. It may be warranted in situations where a person is disabled, been married a long time and not worked, or does not have any job skills. Alimony is not a given, and even if it is, it is often temporary.
  • Child support: Child support is determined using a statutory equation that takes income and child custody into account.
  • Child custody: The objective of the state of Michigan is to give both parents joint legal and physical custody. However, child custody ultimately comes down to determining which parent has the ability to take care of the child. Parents' work schedule and parenting ability are both taken into account.
  • Modifications: Child support modifications are done on the basis of a change of circumstance, such as lost job or salary change. Child custody modifications require a substantial change of circumstances, such as a parent's loss of a job, change of work shift or the development of a drug or alcohol problem.
  • Paternity: We represent the mother or father to prove or disprove paternity. A DNA test is used to determine paternity, and the results often have an impact on child support and child custody.
